Cooperatives and Employment: a global report

Sandra Polaski, Deputy Dieractor General of the International Labour Organisation, at the International Summit of Cooperatives in Quebec on 7 October 2014:

“I would like to congratulate the International Cooperative Summit and the colleagues in CICOPA on the global report on Cooperatives and Employment. We are delighted that the report was able to use and build on analytical, statistical and country work undertaken by the ILO, including the Global Employment Trends series. We welcome the report’s emphasis on employment policy and statistics, enterprise restructuring through worker cooperatives, the potential of cooperatives to play a role in formalization of workers and units in the informal economy, and the promotion of cooperative entrepreneurship among youth, to mention a few of its important contributions.”

European Commissioner Marianne Thyssen for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility:

“The study “Cooperatives and Employment: a Global Report” is useful and interesting. I wholeheartedly agree on the fact that the cooperative sector represents a vibrant and important part of our economy and offers valuable opportunities for engagement and employment, and in particular has an extra potential to reach out to people who are further from the labour market”.
