More than 1,600 participants and personalities of the cooperative movement from 85 countries will take part in the International Summit of Cooperatives to be held from 8th to 11th October in Quebec. The representatives of CICOPA Bruno Roelants, Secretary General and Rebecca Kemble, President of CICOPA-North America and the US Federation of Worker Cooperatives (USFWC) will be participate in this event.
The Summit seeks to analyse and propose solutions to the current problems caused by the crisis and, at the same time, to consolidate the influence of the cooperative movement in the socio-economic, political and global panorama. Therefore, the activities (round tables, conferences and workshops) are focused on the economic and financial challenges cooperatives have to face.
A conference of worker cooperatives will be celebrated on 8th October. The discussion panel, organized by the “Réseau de la coopération du travail” in Quebec, will study the question: “What are the main components of an optimal governance model for worker cooperatives?”
CICOPA Secretary General, Bruno Roelants, will participate in the round table “Cooperatives and mutuals, a distinctive and effective business model – an alternative to the prevailing business model”.
The President of CICOPA-North America and USFWC, Rebecca Kemble, will run the workshop “Production and Worker Cooperatives”.
As a pre-summit event, from 6th to 8th October, “Imagine 2012 – International Conference on Co-operative Economics” will take place in Quebec as well. It is a forum where cooperative leaders and well-known economists could debate about new approaches to economic analysis that better meets people’s needs.
