The main aim of the conference on "Cooperatives and development", which will take place on, 17 November in Cancun, is to launch an open debate about how to build a path towards a cooperative development strategy, based on the concrete experience of cooperative in industrial, service, social, craft and health sectors.
A central round table of around 30 key persons involved in development strategies and policies will debate among themselves and with an audience of around 100 persons mainly composed of ICA members. The participants will review and debate how cooperatives in general, and cooperatives in those sectors in particular, have contributed, and can contribute to development at the local, regional, national and international levels.
The conference is co-organised by two sectoral bodies of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) namely CICOPA (International Organisation of Industrial, Artisanal and Service Producers’ Cooperatives) and IHCO (International Health Cooperative Organisation). This event will be convened at the occasion of the official opening of the International Year of Cooperatives 2012 and during the International Cooperative Alliance’s (ICA) biennial gathering.
