Koperattiva Rurali Manikata was set up in the summer of 2007 by a group of farmers and residents of Manikataa small town in Malta. Their general aim was to put forward projects that would help to safeguard the natural, historical, social and economic environment of the place. Today the cooperative is working on four different projects including the running of the Rural Heritage Trail, the restoration of the historic farmstead Razzetttal-Qasam, the restoration of the Armoury and the promotion of local produce and of typical food. The cooperative is made up of 26 members and it mission is to help the local farmers, to teach about agriculture and local flora and trees and explain the continuous work to protect the area from developments which can spoil or endanger the work of the farmers of the area. Koperattiva Rurali Manikata is offering a programme of educational visits for students and adults along the Manikata Rural Heritage Trail. Here they are able to get a taste of rural life in a place where nature is always at hand. Along the trail visitors are able to see and feed animals, walk along the fields, see historical and archaeological remains, taste some fresh bread and fruit, and also buy some typical local food products produced by the cooperative.
