Péniche Cancale, France

24 July 2014

Péniche Cancale is a former freight barge that has been converted into a bistro and the entertainment. It is a place of artistic discovery offering concerts, dj sets, shows, events, exhibitions, conferences, etc.. This multi-functional boat was created by the cooperative L’Autre Bout du Monde in April 2009. Péniche Cancale is moored at the dock of the Dijon Canal, near the historic city center and just at the start of the Route des Grands Crus of Bourgogne in France. It is located in a quiet area where tourists and locals cross each other in an environment surrounded by water and greenery over the Canal of Bourgogne. L’Autre Bout du Monde has a particular multi-stakeholder form in France, called societé coopérative d’interet collective (collective interest cooperative society), its 183 associates came from 3 categories: employees, volunteers and partner-beneficiaries. It is run by a team of 8 people. For each year of activity, Péniche Cancale hosts more than 180 events and more than 650 artists perform for over 20,000 spectators.
