ICA & CICOPA JOINT STATEMENT ON DECENT WORK IN THE PLATFORM ECONOMY FOR THE 113TH ILO’S INTERNATIONAL LABOUR CONFERENCE
2 June 2025
The platform economy has changed how people work, offering new ways to earn income through digital apps and websites. But many workers in this economy face unfair conditions, such as low pay, lack of rights, and no social protection. As the 113th International Labour Conference focuses on decent work, it is important to highlight fair and sustainable alternatives.
This statement from the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and CICOPA shows how platform cooperatives (digital businesses owned and run by workers) can help fix these problems. Unlike traditional platforms that put profit first, platform cooperatives put people first. They offer better working conditions, fair pay, and democratic decision-making. We call on governments and the ILO to support platform cooperatives as a key part of building a fairer and more just digital economy.
