ICA & CICOPA JOINT STATEMENT ON INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO ADDRESSING INFORMALITY AND PROMOTING THE TRANSITION TO FORMALITY FOR DECENT WORK
2 June 2025
Many people work in informal, unstable jobs or without proper rights and protections. As the International Labour Organization (ILO) holds its 113th International Labour Conference, there is a strong call to find new and practical ways to help these workers move into safe, secure, and fair jobs.
This joint statement from the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and CICOPA shows how cooperatives can be part of the solution. Cooperatives are people-centered businesses that help workers create decent jobs, improve working conditions, and gain legal protection. They are already making a difference in many sectors, especially where informal work is common. This statement explains why cooperatives should be supported and included in national and global plans to reduce informality and promote decent work for everyone.
The ICA and CICOPA issued a joint statement on the formalisation of work.
